It all began here.
Our roots trace back to Asia Minor. My grandparents, refugees of the Asia Minor Catastrophe, settled in the small village of Agia Triada and managed, despite the hardships of the time, to stand on their feet with dignity and perseverance.
Around 1937, they opened the village’s first traditional kafeneio (coffeehouse) — my grandmother tending to the shop and my grandfather working the land. Together, they raised four children and created a warm, welcoming place that quickly became a gathering point for locals.
In 1982, their eldest son, Andreas, took over and slowly turned the kafeneio into a family-run taverna, where tradition, simplicity, and hospitality continued to define every dish and every smile.
Today, I feel deeply proud and grateful to carry on this legacy.
The taverna was named in honor of my father, Andreas, who continued the journey that my grandfather began.
Our vision is to offer an authentic experience of a traditional Cretan taverna, with deep respect for our history, our people, and the land we call home.
Here, in the quiet hills of Agia Triada, we continue to cook with love, serve with respect, and share the flavors and stories of a Crete that lives on — around every table.

Owner & Grandson
At Andreas Taverna, every dish tells a story — a story of local ingredients, time-honored recipes, and a love for sharing good food around the table.
We cook with extra virgin olive oil, seasonal vegetables from our own garden or nearby producers, aromatic herbs from the Cretan mountains, and cheeses and meats from trusted local suppliers. Our kitchen is inspired by the everyday traditions of Crete: simple, pure, and full of flavor.
You’ll find homemade classics like stuffed vine leaves, handmade pies with local cheeses and honey, slow-cooked stews, wild greens, and fresh dishes from the grill — all prepared just as they’ve been for generations.
We don’t just serve food. We offer you a taste of our land, our history, and our way of life. Whether you’re enjoying a glass of wine with meze or a full traditional meal, we want you to feel what real Cretan hospitality means.
Welcome to our table.

Aromatic, juicy, made with passion Eggplant gently fried in extra virgin olive oil to bring out its velvety texture.
Smoked pork, like the old people used to make it – with wood, vinegar and lots of passion. It’s one of the most characteristic cold cuts of Cretan cuisine.
Hot chocolate, a refreshing treat.
A delicious chocolate pie, fluffy and moist, with a rich dark chocolate flavor, served warm, as it should be.
